The Future of Boudoir Photography

Boudoir Photography Future Business
Today I'm  want to start an smart discussion  about a “worry” that has been in my mind from a couple of years. Maybe is not too much but if so, you will have the tools to make arrangements or make decisions into your business in advance.
I'm talking about The future of "Boudoir" Photography, and what means to all of us.
  • Has Boudoir Photography changed it's paradigms?
  • Are you making the same amount of session as you did  5 years ago?
  • Is Boudoir Photography condemned to disappear?
  • Is "Intimate Photography" the new name/concept of Boudoir?

Boudoir business is changing in a fast pace. Thru the past years, Boudoir has adopted many forms, from the classy and beauty to the extreme hardcore, creepy form of zombie boudoir. (google it) A bunch of concepts crossed together.

Some Photographers still breaking the "boudoir Photography" concept into small pieces, (themes) and this is turning the field  weak. Maybe that's the reason why, we started to see concepts like "intimate photography" in USA. "Sensual Ensaio" (Sensual Session) in  Brazil or "Fotografia Femenina" in some places in Latin America, since a couple of years.

I'm wondering about what a "newby" will think about boudoir field as they find so many conceptual ideas? Or maybe because they are starting out on this, they will find no big deal in that?
But part of the true is Boudoir has been around since 1946. From its beginnings Boudoir Photography has had high successful-trendy seasons and tough, low periods that almost make it disappear. (Blair J, (2006) “Cross concept” is not new "Cross concepts" confuse people, and photographers as well.

Back to 80’s,  Boudoir was trendy at main studios, but then muted (banned) among general public,  during the early 90’s because a “cross concept” with glamour (playboy/Maxim content). By Muted I mean clients lose interest on boudoir.
By late 90’s and early 2000 “2 girls from California “boudoir divas” became trendy, They rescue the Boudoir and put it back to a trends with their classy taste style, aimed to empower women.  But now, “multiple cross concepts” are directly affecting the boudoir photography field again... History repeats, but this time, world wide, and it’s look like if we let boudoir fall one more time, there no possibilities to recover back.
Let us know what do you think?
  • Do you have the same amount of people in clients portfolio,  as you used to have 5 years ago?
  • Do you think multi-concepts will affect the future of the "classy" boudoir photo field?
  • Do you believe Boudoir Photography name, needs to be replace by  Intimate Photography?
  • Do you think the are separate concepts? or the same thing?
Change is always part of the future. What do you see in the future of your Boudoir Photography.
